So if me, I would swap in a known good power supply while troubleshooting (or have yours professionally tested). When I plug it in, Windows makes that sound it makes when it finds new hardware that's been connected to the computer, and it shows up in device manager, so it I'm running Windows XP and my laptop is about 7 years old. Create an Ubuntu Live CD, and boot up selecting "Try Ubuntu with no changes to my computer".

  1. I have 350 gigs of music and am not going to change my library (if this has anything to do with iTunes itself).
  2. Sometimes, just trying to access the disk folder freezes everything, and that can affect wmp or any other program open, they just freeze until the disk is turned off.
  3. The problem I'm adressing in 2) is that transferring anything on the disk would result in a message saying that the file is not in the folder I'm copying it from,

I have a feeling this is yet another issue with my computer. Did that, restarted pc, but it wouldn't pick up the drive at all.
