In order to start the Windows Recovery Environment you must boot your computer off of the Windows Vista DVD that you purchased or that came with your computer. I located the backup folders - dozens of them - and trawled through them all only to find 5 contacts! (the most recent additions and they weren't jumbled). When the Startup Repair tool starts, it will scan your Vista installation for any problems. I'd be really grateful for any help anyone is able to offer.
