Windows Xp Defrag Problems

People trying to use the built-in disk the defragmentation tool on a Microsoft Windows XP computer may sometimes have a problem services registry operating system workstation laptop desktop hard drive hdd I went through registry editing trial ware, surfed for hours looking for answers, turned off firewalls, and banged my head against real ones for two nights!!! As soon as I restored the dfrg.msc file to C:\Windows\System32 from a backup, the defragmenter program came up and began working normally again. Hope this helps. I tried defragging on an XP machine once and it kept re-starting the defrag because there was a screen saver set to run after ten minutes or so. the app opened, and when I clicked on the Analyze button it worked, and problem solved!!

I ended up nuking the drive as the backups were obsolete anyway and it was about time to clear the path for another year of backup. even when i force a boot time chkdsk at command prompt, it runs, but diskeeper still wont let me defrag.
